US President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old boy originally from Ghana who was shot and killed on his way to school in the Bronx on Thursday, October 29.
The announcement was made on Saturday by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The visa will allow Ms Frimpong to travel from Ghana to New York City to mourn her son in person.
In a post on social media, Mayor Mamdani said Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person, adding that he had just spoken with President Trump, who agreed to grant her the visa immediately.
He added that all of New York City is mourning the tragedy.
The mayor’s office did not immediately specify what kind of visa had been granted, and the White House had not responded to a request for comment at the time of reporting.
The development comes two days after the teenager was killed.
Security footage showing Javits running for his life has since been shared by local news outlets and on social media.
Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
