The Ghana Prisons Service has urged Ghanaians to remember persons who are languishing in jail for various offences across the country, and send them Christmas presents for them to feel loved in the festive season.
“They still remain our own and so we should endeavour to make them feel loved by visiting them with gifts reminiscent of the season,” a Christmas message from the Prisons PR Unit pleaded.
Ghana’s prison population stood at 15,463 as at September 2019, and these prisoners are being housed in 44 prison establishments across the country.
According to the Ghana Prisons Service, for the reformation of prison inmates to be complete, “there is the need for continuous family support while one is still in prison”.
That, it explained, gives the prisoners “hope for life” after imprisonment, and at the same time, inspire them to be law abiding upon their release from prison.
