A Koforidua-based journalist, Joseph Ofosu, who was arrested for allegedly posing as the communication director at the Presidency has been granted a 10,000-cedi bail.
He has been accused of duping unsuspecting individuals.
Mr Owusu allegedly impersonated and misrepresented the Communication Director at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin and obtained a sum of 2,500 cedis from one Yusif Shafeu under the pretext of nominating him as district chief executive for Sene West.
He is further accused of using Eugene Arhin’s name to obtain 100,000 cedis from one Alhaji Musah Mohammed and 2,000 cedis from one Osei Adiyiah under the pretext of allocating to them auction cars.
According to prosecution, investigations revealed he used mulitple mobile phone numbers registered in the name of Joseph Baah, Alex Darkwa, Hilda Hammond and Seth Marfo to defraud his victims.
Money transfers, according to prosecution, was done through the numbers by the accused and later calls the owners of the said numbers to re-transfer the amount to him claiming they were wrong transactions.
One mobile phone number owned by his girlfriend by name Hilda Hammond is said to have received several transactions which led to her arrest.
According to Hilda, one of the ladies who transferred 2,000 cedis to her mobile money number threatened her to send back the money but the accused person warned Hilda never to respond to any phone call from the said lady.
He pleaded not guilty to three counts of defrauding by false pretences.
Lawyer for the accused, Francis Poly, pleaded for bail for his client which was not opposed by prosecution.
The court subsequently granted Joseph Ofosu 10,000 cedis bail and ordered him to submit his passport to the court registrar and report to the BNI every Friday.
