It’s rare honour to serve you: Mahama admits as he bows out

President Mahama says Ghana is on the cusp of reaping from what it has sown[/caption] President John Dramani Mahama has shown his appreciation to Ghanaians for entrusting the leadership of the country into his hands for four years, a privilege only few would be accorded. Recalling his political journey from a Member of Parliament from Bamboi to the highest office of the land, President Mahama acknowledged, “it has been a rare honour for me to serve my country”. The president was delivering his last State of the Nation Address to Parliament Thursday as the sixth president of Ghana under the Fourth Republic. The tenure of Mr. Mahama, who lost last month’s general elections with over one million votes short of the eventual winner Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will expire on the midnight of January 6, 2016. President-elect Akufo-Addo will be inaugurated on January 7 to govern for the next four years. The State of the Nation Address is to let “Ghanaians know where we stand as the baton changes hand”, President Mahama explained. “It has been a rare honour and privilege for me to serve my country in the highest office as President. It has been a worthwhile journey. And let me seize the opportunity to thank God for his grace and to the good people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve,” he remarked. The president thanked Ghanaians for giving him the opportunity to serve them. He was equally grateful to his Vice Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho and Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood. President Mahama also trumpted some of his achievements over the past four years including the completion of the Kwame Nkrumah interchange, massive road network, over 100 Community Day School buildings among other infrastructure. He noted that under his tenure, Ghana’s education system receive massive boost, removing many schools under trees, distribution of education materials among others which he asserted have seen improvement in the BECE and WASSCE results.
