nana-akufo-addo-is-sworn-in-as-president-68Newly sworn in President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the country’s forefathers will be “disappointed” at the level of development achieved within 60 years of independence.

Addressing the nation at his investiture Saturday morning, President Akufo-Addo decried Ghana’s development achievements with two months to the country’s 60th birthday.

“On March 6 in a few weeks time, Ghana will attain 60 years as an independent nation. I suspect that those early nationalists will be disappointed if they came today and saw the level of development we have achieved in 60 years of independence,” he observed.

Nana Akufo-Addo who is promising to take the development of the nation into a higher gear in the next four years of his first government said the 60 years journey has been characterised by “some highs and unfortunately, many lows”.

He told a gathering of thousands Ghanaians and foreign dignitaries at the Independence Square in Accra that the country’s started to see consistent development just 24 years ago when it entered into the fourth republic.

“Since we accepted a consensus on how we should be governed from the onset of the fourth republic, we have performed more creditably.

“It is within this period of 24 years that Ghana has witnessed a consistent period of development,” he observed.

For the new the new president who is expected to begin forming his government from Monday, Ghanaians no longer have excuses whatsoever for being poor because there are exuberant growing young population that wants the best of the world.

“I stand here today humbled beyond measure, for the opportunity to lead this country as this time and take us to a higher level of development,” he assured.

He pledged his government would reduce taxes to recover the momentum the country’s economy, noting “the subjects are up again. There could not be a better opportunity to making Ghana and to make it in Ghana”.

President Akufo-Addo added: “We will rekindle the spirit and make Ghana the leading light of the African continent.”
