… Ignores Adenta communities
As part of ongoing efforts to improve power reliability in the Tse Addo area of the Greater Accra Region—home to many of Ghana’s elite—the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has selectively deployed a mobile transformer to enhance electricity supply and ease pressure on existing infrastructure.
The mobile transformer, with a capacity of 20/26 Mega Volt Amperes (MVA) and operating at 33/11 Kilovolts (kv), has been temporarily installed in Tse Addo, where several of the country’s key decision-makers reside, to offload part of the burden from the overstretched La Primary Substation.
In stark contrast, ECG, has continued to ignore repeated appeals from residents of the Lakeside communities near Ashaley Botwe in the Adenta Municipality.
These residents suffer from persistent low voltage, frequent power outages, and damage to household appliances due to an unreliable electricity supply.
The installation process, began early on Monday, with the unit transported to the Burma Hill site at approximately 2 a.m.
Speaking ahead of the installation, Ing. Emmanuel Kwame Addo, Maintenance Manager at ECG Subtransmission in Accra, said the move is temporary, but necessary, as the La Primary Substation is currently operating above 100 per cent capacity.
“Ideally, a transformer should carry a load of around 70 per cent. What we have now is a transformer running beyond its safe limit,” he explained.
“This mobile unit will allow us to transfer some of the load from the La Primary Substation and create room to upgrade the existing transformer to meet the growing demand.”
Tse Addo, a fast-developing enclave known for its upscale residential and commercial developments, has faced increasing challenges with power stability due to rising energy consumption.
Ing. Addo, also urged residents to support ECG’s efforts by conserving electricity where possible.
The mobile transformer was previously stationed at Agbogba, where it helped stabilise the power supply before being decommissioned and relocated to Tse Addo.
According to ECG, once conditions in Tse Addo stabilise, the unit will be moved to another area, where it will experience similar power challenges.
Ing. Addo, concluded that deploying the mobile transformer underscores ECG’s commitment to ensuring a reliable regional electricity supply, even as long-term infrastructure improvements are pursued.
