Operatives of the National Security stormed the residence of former presidential staffer James Agyenim Boateng and took away his Toyota Prado, claiming it belongs to the state.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng, who worked in the Office of the Vice President, explained that he bought the vehicle while he was working at the Ministry of Communication in the year 2012 but the National Security operatives forcibly took it away.
Narrating his ordeal to Onua FM on Friday, the former Deputy Information Minister said early on Tuesday morning, three military officers and one civilian stormed his house and requested to search for some missing state vehicles.
He added that the one in plain clothes told him they were from National Security and they were looking for some missing state vehicles.
Mr. Boateng said he requested their search warrant but they told him they had no search warrant but had a letter written by the Chief of Staff to effect the search.
He added that he asked what authority they had to do that “because the letter written by the Chief of staff is not a substitute for a search warrant” but they insisted on searching the house without the warrant.
The former broadcaster said he asked whether they have any inventory of the vehicles they were looking for and the documents of cars they were looking for but they failed to produce any of them “so I finally opened them in”.
He said one of his vehicles, Toyota Prado, which he registered in the year 2012 but still bears the names of the supplier became the target.
He said they asked him of the document and he produced them but because it was still in the name of the supplier, they told him it belongs to the state and they took it away.
Asked why he did not do the change of ownership, Mr. Agyenim Boateng said it is still in the name of the supplier “because I know I can get the supplier any time I need him”.
He added that he has posted all the pictures and what transpired on his Facebook wall and he can produce the “CCTV to back my claims”.
