Commemorating 31st December Revolution: Zanetor Rawlings Urges Leadership with Integrity

Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings has underscored the urgent need for leadership with integrity and accountability at all levels of governance.

Speaking passionately at the 31st December Revolution commemoration held at the Nungua Town Park, the eldest daughter of the 1st President under the 4th Republic of Ghana, the late Jerry John Rawlings strongly advocated for a national ethos rooted in responsibility, fairness, and ethical leadership.

“We must hold one another accountable. We must make sure that we reinstitute consequence management. This means that if we do so properly, this psyche that people act with impunity will finally be put to rest. People must be held accountable for what they do,” she emphasized.

Zanetor further called for the recognition and celebration of citizens, particularly public servants who serve with integrity and demonstrate a high sense of patriotism and nationalism.

“It’s time we celebrate our heroes for doing the right thing and shaming those who use their positions to destroy and amass wealth at the expense of the people of this country,” she remarked, calling for a total shift towards accountability.

Dr. Rawlings also expressed strong opposition to the misuse of national resources for personal or partisan gain, describing it as a betrayal of the people’s trust.

“The resources of this country are not meant for one family, one ethnic group, and definitely not for one political party. The mandate that the people of Ghana have given us is a sacred one and a solemn one,” she declared, underscoring the principle of shared national ownership and equity.

Turning her attention to Ghana’s current political and social landscape, Dr. Rawlings warned of the risks posed by the regional climate of unrest and democratic backsliding.

She urged the National Democratic Congress to remain steadfast in pursuing a sustainable, integrity-driven future.

“We are at a dangerous crossroads. At a time in our history where we are surrounded by unrest, where democratic reversals surround us, we need to show that the path we are on is the path of righteousness and the path towards a sustainable future where the integrity and dignity of all Ghanaians are assured,” she stressed.

In a direct message to members and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Rawlings urged them to adopt a vigilant and proactive role as the conscience of the nation.

“So wherever you find yourself, whether you’re a member, a sympathizer, or an executive of the NDC, your job now and for the next four years is to be the conscience of the people of Ghana, playing on the minds of your representatives in government as we get sworn into office on the 7th of January.”

The annual commemoration of the 31st December uprising serves as a reminder of the values of probity, accountability, social justice, and transparency that underpinned the movement.

Dr. Rawlings’ address reaffirmed the continued relevance of these principles in shaping Ghana’s governance and political discourse, underscoring the importance of ethical leadership and shared responsibility in navigating Ghana’s path forward.
