A National Vice Chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita Desoso, said she felt “so happy” former president Jerry John Rawlings talked about her at the June 4 celebration earlier this year.
At the 39th anniversary of the uprising celebrated at the Madina Social Welfare School Park, Ms Desoso knelt before the founder and begged for forgiveness on behalf of the national executives of the party.
Mr Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDC, failed to campaign for the party in the 2016 elections, a situation which is said to have contributed to the first-round loss to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
When JJ Rawlings, who looked away during the gesture by the Vice Chairperson, took the podium to address supporters, he said the former Women’s Organiser was a crook and should rather stop bleaching.
But speaking on the incident on TV3 on New Day on Thursday, Ms Desoso said Mr Rawlings is his dad and their difference is a normal one just like a parent and their ward.
“I know one day the elders of the party will bring them [including Mrs Rawlings] back to us,” she said.
She said Mr Rawlings had promised to lash out at the executives prior to that event with his infamous ‘boom’ speeches.
As a result, to avoid the imminent attack, Ms Desoso said she took the opportunity to beg for forgiveness.
“I was so happy because if you listened carefully, he mentioned my name three times,” she told host Johnnie Hughes.
Anita Desoso will be contesting the 2018 national elections as National Organiser, moving from her National Vice Chair position.
Asked if that is not a demotion, she said she now wants to put her real talents to good use.
“To be a vice chairperson is a privilege but I want to use my talent and my talent is to organize people,” she said, indicating that she took interest in the position when Kofi Adams said he would no longer seek reelection.
She will, however, be contesting against six men.
“They know who Anita is. I am a woman of substance and they know.”
