The Air Force Recruits Training School at Takoradi in the Western Region says it needs more muscular medicines and protein-based food supplies for its recruits.
According to Flt. Lt. Samuel Adjei-Affum who is the acting commanding officer for the training school, medicines for muscular skeletal healing process, cream and ointment for massages as well as vitamins supplies are inadequate for the recruits.
He explained the nature of the training for the recruits is such that they require enough and regular supply of such medicines, but noted what the school have are not enough.
He also said vegetables, fruits and proteins which will give the recruits balanced diets, are sometimes not enough for the school, whose population has increased this year.
Though he said “soldiers are able to stay within any means, at least once a while the recruits can have them [vegetables, fruits and proteins] as a balance diet”.
Flt. Lt Adjei-Affum who said this when SIC-Life presented a cash donation of 5,000 cedis to the school appealed to corporate organisations to assist the training school said the inadequate food and medical supplies are their major concerns.
Though he commended government for doing its best in sustaining the livelihoods of both recruits and instructors, he said the school needs a lot more.
The commanding officer stated the school’s enrolment has increased since they moved to their new compound, noting current enrolment for course 1/20018 stands at 312; the highest since the school was established.
He was optimistic the amount would go a long way to stock their medical shelves as well as food supplement.
“Hopefully, this amount will go to get medical store for them which they badly need and then supplement their feeding as we try to shape them up,” he said, adding “we try to close up their bones a little so that their families are scared as to what they went through”.
Deputy managing director for SIC Life, Kwaku Appiah – Menka, explained the donation is to motivate the efforts of the service men and the recruits.
He maintained the work of the military cannot be ignored, hence called on other entities assist them especially as the yuletide is approaching.
“For us at SIC life it is very important to us to extend our corporate social responsibility to the military… we all have to help each other. It is festive season whatever help you can, please let’s all do it, not to the military only but to all government security institutions,” he appealed.
