The former Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, is expected to be buried next year on February 17, 2024.

Apostle Ntumy, who was among about 36 ministers of the church who retired from active ministry this year, died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

He was the fourth Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, the largest Pentecostal group in Ghana, with presence in over 151 countries.

The burial date was made known on Thursday when the family of Apostle Ntumy called on the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye to officially announce his “peaceful passing”.

Addressing the family, Apostle Nyamekye eulogised Apostle Dr Ntumy, describing him as a great man who was very passionate about God and the Church.

“The family gave us a good person, a person with a passion for God and the Church,” Pentecost News quoted Apostle Nyamekye as saying.

He added: “There was something mysterious about the life of Apostle Dr Ntumy; there was something mysterious between him and God and between him and The Church of Pentecost.”

According to the Chairman, God orchestrated his life, and everything about him was a miracle.

Apostle Nyamekye encouraged the family to remain strong in times of grief, pledging the Church’s absolute support in organising a befitting funeral in his honour.

The family thanked God and The Church of Pentecost for the love and support shown to Apostle Dr Ntumy and his family.

The family delegation that represented the Krachi Wura, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, included H. E. Nana Mensah Demetiah (Ghana Ambassador to Togo and Chief of Osramanae), Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso (MP for Krachi West), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh (native of Krachi and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost), Apostle Dr Alfred Koduah (former General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost and Family Spokesman), Okyeame Sunkwa (Chief Linquist of Krachi Traditional Council) and Pastor Dr Emmanuel Ntumy (first son of Apostle Dr Ntumy), among others.

The Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, was joined by key church leaders to receive the family’s delegation.

They included Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi (General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe (International Missions Director), Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (immediate past General Secretary and current Area Head for Ashaiman), Apostle Yaw Adjei-Kwarteng (Kwadaso Area Head and Executive Council Member), Apostle Samuel Osei Asante (Kaneshie Area Head and Executive Council Member), Apostle Dr Amos Jimmy Markin (Evangelism Director and Executive Council Member), and Apostle Dr Deudenne Komla Nuekpe (La Area Head and Executive Council Member).

About Apostle Dr Ntumy

Born on September 22, 1958, Apostle Dr Micahel Kwabena Ntumy became the fourth Chairman of The Church of Pentecost from 1998 to 2008 and also served as the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) during the same period.

He was also the Vice-President and President of the Bible Society of Ghana, a member of the Ghana AIDS Commission, and a Chancellor of the Pentecost University. He was awarded the Order of the Volta, Companion (Civil Division) in 2006 by President John Agyekum Kufuor for his contributions to national development.

He was a man of faith, courage, and grace who dedicated his life to serving God and humanity.

He was trained as a teacher at the Atebubu College of Education and taught for a short period in Yendi in the 1980s before his calling into the full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost in 1984 at the age of 26.

He married his wife Martha at 24, and they had six children together. He was called to the office of an apostle at 33.

He served as a missionary of the Church in Liberia, Ivory Coast, France, and Switzerland before being elected as the Chairman of the Church in 1998.

He retired from active ministry in Hamburg, Germany on September 24, 2023.
