Atibie chiefs rescind decision to block road to paragliding site

The chief and traditional authorities of Atibie in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region have rescinded their decision to block the road that links the town to the paragliding site ahead of this year’s Easter festive season.

The chief, Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II, and Nananom last month threatened to stop visitors across the world from entering Atibie and its surrounding towns to enjoy the annual paragliding festival if government failed to fix the road.

According to him, though the site has become a popular tourist site, the town is bedevilled with deplorable roads.

He further stated that the town suffers from dust during the festive season due to the number of people who troop in to witness or take part in the festival.

Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II lamented that since the inception of the paragliding site at the Odwenanoma Mountain, the town and custodians of the land have tasted no material benefits or development and this instigated the traditional leaders to make that resolution.

In an interview with Onua FM, Barimah Kwame Asante Betiani II, who also doubles as Gyaasehene of Kwahu Traditional Council, made known the recent decision of Nananom.

This is as a result of the public politicization and lambasting of the traditional authorities over the decision to demand from government to fix the road.

He added that they have finally resorted to annul the decision and would never talk about it again as far as the road is concerned in order to redeem and protect their reputation as chiefs and traditional leaders.
