The National Service Authority (NSA) has released a total of 85,159 personnel drawn from across accredited tertiary institutions in the country to start a one-year mandatory national service. The posting represents the first batch deployed to both private and public firms. “This figure excludes personnel who had issues with data mis-match and have either had it resolved or pending review, teachers, nurses, midwives and other equally vital categories,” a statement issued by the Director-General, Ruth Dela Seddoh, said. President John Dramani Mahatma has left Ghana for France on official duty. He is expected to continue to Egypt before returning home on Monday, November 3. This was communicated to Parliament by the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Tuesday. In the absence of the President, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang shall act in accordance with Article 60 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Vetting and Appointments Committee of Parliament has decided on Monday, November 10 as date for the vetting of Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for a substantive role. Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to replace ousted Gertrude Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. After resuming on Tuesday, October 21, the Committee met two days later to consider the date for the public vetting. As agreed by all members, the vetting will take place at the Speaker’s Conference Room on Monday, November 10. Ghana Premier League side Nations FC have ceded their coaching job to veteran Stephen Frimpong Manso, whose last job in the top-flight was for champions Bibiani Goldstars SC.  This appointment comes barely two days after Nations FC parted ways with Kassim Ocansey Mingle and his assistant, Johnson Smith. Several workers have been injured with some in critical condition after a storey building under construction at Roman Ridge collapsed. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon. According to eye witnesses, about 14 workers were on site when it occurred. The workers were trapped under the rubble for hours before officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived to rescue them all. They were sent to the 37 Military and Greater Accra Regional hospitals for medical care. President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, will be given a “full” state burial. Though a funeral date is yet to be announced, President Mahama said the widow of late President Jerry John Rawlings will be given an appropriate send-off. He was speaking on Tuesday, October 28 when he visited the Ridge residence of the Rawlingses to commiserate with the family, especially the four children.
