President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to suspend her directives to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as regards its occupation on the national digital terrestrial television (DTT) network. The president’s directive, on Thursday, July 23, is to allow for further consultation with stakeholders. The East Gonja Municipal Assembly has handed over a completed boys dormitory and a three-unit classroom block to authorities of Salaga Senior High School. The project was under the government’s Senior High School Intervention Projects (SHSIP) that is intended to bridge infrastructural gap in senior high schools across the country. Government through the Ministry of Education, since the introduction of the double-track system, announced that it was going to put up more dormitories and classroom blocks. The National Media Commission (NMC) has taken exception to a directive issued by the Minister of Communications to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Crystal TV for the two media institutions to reduce their channels on the National Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network. After an emergency meeting in Accra following a petition from GBC and a letter written by the Minister of Information, the Commission, chaired by Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo, says the issue borders on the freedom given the media under the 1992 Constitution. Ghana’s total coronavirus cases are inching to 30,000 following 683 new cases confirmed by the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The new infections have shot the cumulative cases to 29,672 from 28,989. Recoveries-cum-discharges have also increased, from 25,331 to 26,090, which portends a good omen for the fight against the virus, coupled with the remainder of deaths at 153. This has seen a further reduction in the number of active cases as well, from 3,505 to 3,429. Out of this number, 25 are in “severe” conditions and six are in “critical” conditions with three on ventilators.…

It observed the movement of politicians in groups to registration centres in the guise of familiarising themselves with the exercise or responding to calls by their representatives about illegal activities has been a major cause of these violence.
