It has finally happened. As the world watched on, and with a strict set of hygiene rules in place, the German Bundesliga became the first major European league to get back under way. And while plenty of aspects were different from before, it would be no exaggeration to call it an historic matchday – not least due to a change in the rules. FIFA.com looks at 10 things that we noticed over the weekend. Same same but different Of course it was totally different – but once we got into it, it was much like it always had been. Erling…
General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) boycotted the last meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) held on March 25, 2020 at the EC Conference Room. He said the NDC then cited the Covid-19 situation in the country as their excuse for boycotting that meeting. According to John Boadu, it was at that very meeting that the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) discussed details of its proposed amendments to the existing Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2016 (C.I. 91) for the conduct of Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.…
National Coordinator for Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) Albert Kofi Arhin has disclosed that no individual or an institution can manipulate results in favour of any political party in Ghana. Mr Arhin asserts that Ghana has a watertight electoral system which would not allow anyone to rig elections for any political party. The former Director of Operations at the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) expressed these when speaking on the Yensempa morning show on Onua FM on Monday, May 18. He stressed that the electoral process from the stage of compiling a register is keenly monitored by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other international bodies…

Two students of the University of Ghana have launched an online petition, rallying support from fellow students to demand partial refund of academic and residential fees from authorities. According to the students, Kojo Danquah and Sampson Tagbor, there is a seeming breach of agreement between students and the university as academic work has switched online. “We are of the strong conviction that the agreement for academic tuition and residency the University had with students prior to admission and registration are hinged on the invaluable face-to-face lecture delivery by lecturers, social contact and academic interactions among students and direct access to…
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich comfortably beat Union Berlin in another strange game as the league’s return continued during the coronavirus pandemic. It has been allowed to restart without fans, most people off the pitch wearing masks and muted goal celebrations. Robert Lewandowski gave the champions the lead with a penalty – his 40th goal in 34 Bayern games this season. And Benjamin Pavard headed in a late second from Joshua Kimmich’s corner. Saturday’s games gave us an indication of what football will look like for the foreseeable future, as the Bundesliga became the first elite league to return. And it…
I have juju. Yes I do. I confess. It’s a hard thing to say but I can’t help it. I just have to spill beans. I’ve to let the cat (maybe this black one for that matter) out of the bag. It’s been a hard decision to take. All the same, I don’t regret telling you the truth today. I have this voodoo I use to influence imaginations; both during the day and night; sometimes even dawn. I use it to my benefit; our mutual benefit. A lot of people have heard rumors of it. A few others know of…
National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sammy Gyamfi has descended heavily on the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), saying Jean Adukwei Mensa lied to eminent Ghanaians including Archbishop Nicolas Duncan Williams of the Action Chapel International Ministry over the required documents for the compilation of a new voters’ register. Sammy Gyamfi said Mrs Mensa told the Eminent Advisory Committee (EAC) at a stakeholders’ consultation meeting that the Commission will admit documents such as the existing voters’ ID card in compiling the register for the December 7 polls. But he says the Commission has since restricted…

It said the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) already charges VAT, NHIL and GETFund levy on the supply of electricity in excess of lifeline units. The statement said the purpose of the ‘said GRA…
Chief Executive Officer of Sekondi Hasaacas FC Samuel Paapa Kwesi Esson Arbuah has kicked against the Ghana Football Association’s idea of reducing the Division One League teams from 48 to 18. The concept of the reduction was approved by Congress with the process set to begin soon, according to the Ghana FA. But in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma 87.9 FM, Kwasi Arbuah opposed the decision, noting it will adversely affect grassroots football in the country. “It doesn’t make any sense to me to reduce the current 48 Division One Team League to 18 teams.” He added: “Reducing the teams will…
