COVID-19 pandemic presents the globe and specifically Ghana with several health dilemmas for Public Health experts and watchers of the health system to ponder over. The questions that come to mind are the ethics and morality of the measures in this era of liberalism and emphasis on personal autonomy when it comes health, as opposed to the archaic principle of paternalism which placed the health providers as father figure (in-loco parentis) to the patients/clients and therefore relegated the inputs of patients/clients to the background. Covid-19 pandemic has seen the implementation of draconian measures using judiciary arsenals such as Imposition of…
The dance rivalry between two of Media General’s finest is one ‘beef’ that has been cooking for some time now. After days, weeks, and even months of bragging, Giovani Caleb and Johnnie Hughes decided to settle the rivalry once and for all with a face-off. The hosts of the 3FM Drive on 3FM and Showbiz 360 on TV3 and TV3 New Day, Giovani Caleb and Johnnie Hughes respectively, chose no other day than April 29, marked globally as International Dance Day, to settle the ‘beef’. International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of…
Asante Kotoko have settled the $240,000 debt slapped on them by FIFA following the arbitration of the case involving the illegal transfer of Emmanuel Clottey from Tunisian side Esperance in 2015. FIFA would have ordered the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to relegate the Ghanaian giants, among other sanctions, if they had failed to settle the debt by Sunday, May 17. The ruling was given on Friday, April 10. But speaking to Kotoko Express App, Spokesperson of the club Kennedy Boakye-Ansah said the Executive Chairman has settled the debts – $225,000 to the Blood and Golds and $15,000 to the committee…
The US economy suffered its most severe contraction in more than a decade in the first quarter of the year, as the country introduced lockdowns to slow the spread of coronavirus. The world’s largest economy sank at an annual rate of 4.8%, according to official figures released on Wednesday. It marked the first contraction since 2014, ending a record expansion. But the figures do not reflect the full crisis, since many of the restrictions were not put in place until March. Sine then, more than 26 million people in the US have filed for unemployment, and the US has seen…
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have announced the birth of a son. A spokeswoman for the PM and his partner said both mother and baby are “doing very well”. It is understood Mr Johnson, who has just recovered from coronavirus, was present throughout the birth, at an NHS hospital in London. But he has now returned to work in Downing Street, No 10 said, where he is leading the response to the pandemic. He is expected to take a “short period” of paternity leave at some point later this year, Downing Street said. The couple have…
Senior Rent Manager at the Rent Control Office in the Ashanti Region Paul Kofi Appiah has revealed that before anyone could rent out a room, it is the duty of the Rent Control Department to determine the pricing based on size and location of the house. He was quick to add that before a Rent Control officer could do that, one has to request what he called an application for assessment. The application, he said, would give the green light for the officer to visit the house in ascertaining size of the room as well as inspecting wash room and toilet facilities…
Since the beginning of this fight against the CoVid-19 pandemic, my observation is that the government of Ghana has demonstrated great leadership and has constantly made decisions based on available data and science. At any point in time, I observe that the government of Ghana always put the best interest of the Ghanaian first even if it made us uncomfortable for a short while. The constant updates to citizens by the president himself, giving us as much information direction and reliefs as deemed necessary for the consumption of the ordinary citizen is very reassuring and is exemplary. So far I…
SOLLO7, affectionately described by his fans as ‘Africa’s golden voice,’ has finally released his much anticipated 12-track sophomore project, ‘The White Album,’ establishing a sound that many believe will change Ghana music, as we know it, forever. It would seem that the emotive ‘Asheasi’ crooner has finally come full circle with how much influence his sound wields within Ghana. The White Album begins with an ad-hoc phone recording of SOLLO7’s grandmother singing an old Ga-Dangbe love song. Next is ‘I Must Be Mad’ an Afro Pop dance duet with Afro Jazz songbird Adomaa, followed by a remix to his long-distance…
