The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against complacency in the fight against the coronavirus, saying the disease “will be with us for a long time”. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also warned of upward trends in Covid-19 cases in Africa, Eastern Europe, Central America and South America. The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has explained that it has not given approval for increment of transport fares in the country over the measures taken by the government in fighting against the coronavirus pandemic. The GPRTU said currently all transport fares remain the same even though the measures announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is having a dire consequence on commercial drivers. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Achimota Divisional Police Command have apprehended two Chinese nationals at Kisseman, a suburb of Accra, for producing unregistered Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs). The two, a man and his wife, have been producing the PPEs in commercial quantities without approval from the FDA. The arrest was based upon a tip-off. Nigeria has recorded 91 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the country’s total number to 873. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control said 74 new cases were recorded in the commercial capital, Lagos, which remains the epicentre of transmission with more than 500 cases. The capital, Abuja, now has 119 cases while Kano state has 73 cases – the highest in northern Nigeria, where state governors have now banned Koranic schools to curb the spread of the virus. Ghana has recorded 112 additional cases of Covid-19 since the last update by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday. The new cases take the total tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country to 1,154.
