A section of assembly members in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly in the Western Region were on Friday allegedly prevented from taking part in the confirmation exercise of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee Benjamin Kessie. The Ghana Water Company Limited in the Eastern Region would begin a rationing programme, effective Monday, May 25, for residents in and around Koforidua. Demand for water has increased due to usage amid the Covid-19 relief provided by government. Water pumps are experiencing low pressure and, in some parts, no flow in recent times. The Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region has recorded three Covid-19 cases, MCE Lawyer Owusu Addo has confirmed. Two cases were recorded at the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw and one at the Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) proved positive. Forty-eight persons who tested positive in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region cannot be traced for follow-ups. Our correspondent Beatrice Spio-Garbrah reports that all persons have failed to avail themselves after their samples tested positive. Ashanti Regional Health Director of Health, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, attributes the trend to the fear, stigma and discrimination attached to Covid-19.
