The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an interlocutory injunction seeking to stop the construction works being carried out in relation to the National Cathedral at Ridge in Accra. The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) is to report to the police a journalist who authored a publication alleging that the Council has received an amount of GH¢145 million from the government to carry out election-related activities towards the December polls. The Council says it wants the journalist to provide “further and better particulars” of the allegation to the police because it has not received any money from the state. The Head of the Virology Department of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Professor William Kwabena Ampofo, says seven out of the 21 cases tested for coronavirus showed symptoms as outlined by the Ghana Health Service despite all proving negative. Ghana’s foremost aerospace medicine specialist Dr Issaka Yakubu Akparibo has cautioned the government not to make the mistake of using emergency centres mounted to prevent Ebola in 2014 as centres for the new coronavirus disease. Dr Akparibo says the modes of transmission of the two diseases are “totally different” and so the mechanism in preventing them should also be different. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been declared by the government as the next venue to host the 63rd National Independence celebration in Kumasi. Health officials in China have published the first details of more than 70,000 cases of Covid-19, in the biggest study since the outbreak began. Data from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC) found that more than 80% of the cases have been mild, with the sick and elderly most at risk.
