If you followed the Year of Return activities for last year, you would have noticed that almost all the activities were centered in the Greater Accra Region. Apart from some visits to the Cape Coast and Elmina castles in the Central Region by some Diasporans, all other regions were left out in the activities that marked 400 years since the first slaves arrived in Virginia in the US. Tourism Curator PaJohn Bentsifi Dadson, who works with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has revealed that nothing really happened in the other regions because they failed to submit their plans or activities…
The Ghana Railways Company Limited has confirmed the return train from Tarkwa to Takoradi on Thursday experienced a minor challenge at Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality of the Western Region. The company, however, says the challenge was resolved for the train to proceed safely back to Takoradi minutes after the incident. “When we got to Nsuta the coach carrying goods experienced a technical hitch and so we had to stop. After on-the-spot examination, the engineers agreed that the coach be left behind,” Michael Kobina Addison, the Chief Civil Engineer for Ghana Railways Company Limited, told 3news.com. Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otokunor says his party’s position on the move by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to compile a new voters’ register has been worsened after the IPAC meeting on Thursday. The EC at the instance of its Eminent Advisory Committee (EAC) called a meeting of the Interparty Advisory Committee over the decision to compile a new register for the 2020 elections. The meeting was held at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra. The EC made a renewed presentation to the parties in the presence of some civil society organisations…
Some 37 former workers of the GCB Bank Ghana Limited have dragged the nation’s foremost commercial bank to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the “wrongful” termination of their contracts. According to them, their dismissal is “unfair, discriminatory and, as a result, violates their right to work”. CHRAJ has, consequently, written to the Managing Director of GCB Bank Limited to respond within 10 working days. “Please take note that the Commission will proceed with its investigation in accordance with law if you do not submit your comment/response within the time stipulated herein,” the letter written by…
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hail the “dawn of a new era” later, as the UK prepares to leave the European Union after 47 years. In a speech to be shown at 22:00 GMT – an hour before the official departure time – he will say Brexit is “not an end but a beginning”. He will describe severing ties with the other 27 EU nations as “a moment of real national renewal and change”. Little will change immediately, as the UK begins a “transition period”. Most EU laws will continue to be in force – including the free movement of…
Authorities in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) have declared a state of emergency as massive bushfires rage south of Canberra. It is the worst fire threat to the territory in nearly two decades, officials said. The main blaze, in the territory’s south, is burning over more than 18,500 hectares. Residents in suburbs of Canberra have been urged to “remain alert” for potential evacuations. “The ACT is now facing the worst bushfire threat since the devastating fires of 2003,” Chief Minister Andrew Barr told reporters on Friday. “There’s now no higher priority for the ACT government at this time than the…

Members of the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists will from Friday, January 31 withdraw their services for all forms of surgery. This comes in the wake of what they say is unwillingness on the part of government to meet their demands. The Association had written to the Minister of Health on January 11, 2020 for an improvement in their conditions of service. They had embarked on strike last year over the attempt, they say, by some elements within the Medical and Dental Council to have their status changed. “The union wishes to express its disappointment for the unfortunate event…
Former Minister of Communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah may be lacing his boots to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections as NDC’s candidate for Mpraeso Constituency. The Mpraeso Constituency has been a fortress for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with Seth Kwame Acheampong occupying the seat since 2009. He succeeded Dr Francis Osafo Mensah, who had occupied the seat…
