Tension is brewing in East Legon in Accra between the only Independent Presidential Candidate in the 2016 election, Jacob Osei Yeboah, and some unknown persons who are said to be from the seat of government over the ownership of four plots of land situated at East Legon. Nigeria has recorded 91 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the country’s total number to 873. The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control said 74 new cases were recorded in the commercial capital, Lagos, which remains the epicentre of transmission with more than 500 cases. The capital, Abuja, now has 119 cases while Kano state has 73 cases – the highest in northern Nigeria, where state governors have now banned Koranic schools to curb the spread of the virus. One of Ghana’s testing laboratories for coronavirus, Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR), says the country could soon hit the 100,000 mark as regards tests. “Don’t be surprised if we say we have tested 100,000 samples in Ghana,” Professor William Ampofo, the Head of Virology at NMIMR, said on Wednesday. Ghana has recorded 112 additional cases of Covid-19 since the last update by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday. The new cases take the total tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country to 1,154. This was announced on Wednesday, April 22 by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, at a media briefing in Accra. Major ecumenical bodies in Ghana will begin a three-day national fasting and prayers on Friday, April 24 for God’s power to end the coronavirus pandemic. This is the first time in a while that these bodies are coming together for a national cause. The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has announced the successful delivery of twins by a 68-year old woman. The chairman of the hospital’s Medical Advisory Council, Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.
