Coincidentally, Azamati had raced the two in the heats earlier on Wednesday, January 8. He, however, did a better time of 10.56s to beat Gadayi (10.67s) and Ibrahim (10.71s). Azamati was a member of Ghana’s 4 X 100m team that won Gold at the All Africa Games last…

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says a compilation of a new register by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) without the utilization of the National Identification System will be a wasteful venture. The second largest opposition party said its position on the new voters’ register had been contingent upon the beginning of the implementation of the Ghana Card by the National Identification Authority (NIA). “It is in this respect that we were gravely concerned and disappointed at the news that the Parliament of Ghana approved the budget for the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 elections,”…
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has responded to recent comments made by former President Jerry John Rawlings on the occasion of the commemoration of the 31st December 1981 revolution. Mr Rawlings had called for the immediate interdiction of the Vice Chancellor, Reverend Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, whom he accused of trampling on the rights of some other senior members of the university. “From the records of EOCO and other state agencies, the affected individuals were exonerated as there was no evidence of misconduct established against them,” the former president told a gathering at Winneba in the Central Region. “Ironically, the…
I feel obliged to throw my hat into the ring of grading the Akufo-Addo government. I take on this task after carefully observing three other similar ratings, only one of which was based on any meaningful data. The scores, however, tell on both our expectations and how much we are willing to excuse Ghana’s current administration. The government led by son of a former ceremonial head of state under the Second Republic obviously deserves an A++ rating for turning the West African nation into a new haven where not much seems to be working. As promised during the electioneering, the…

The Paramount Chief of Asokore Asante in the Ashanti Region, Nana Dr S.K.B Asante, has called for chiefs being given a representation in governance at the District Assembly level. According to him, government would need the help of traditional rulers to carry out successful developmental projects in the country. The lawyer, whose stool name is Nana Susubribri Krobea Asante, said multi-party system of governance should not be an impediment to development. Therefore, he called for a national development plan to guide politicians in order to, for instance, reduce the rate of dissolution of various boards of institutions when a new…
The Head of the Currency Processing Operations at the Bank of Ghana, Dominic Owusu, has disclosed that Bank of Ghana has no intention of setting up a printing facility to print Cedis anytime soon. “We don’t have the capacity and it is a very expensive venture,” he stated. Mr. Owusu’s comments follow growing concerns from the public for Bank of Ghana to consider printing the Cedi in the country. The concerns were renewed after the introduction…
