The Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (GGC) is providing skills apprenticeships and self-employment support for 150 young people in five communities in the Bono Region with the launch of its project ‘Community Works Training and Start-Up Support’. The project, which has a budget of €48,000 and funded by German Development Cooperation, is aimed at reducing youth unemployment by providing self-employment opportunities. Through this, it will provide alternatives to irregular migration whilst at the same time support the successful socioeconomic reintegration of returning migrants into their host societies. Boxer Patrick Allotey has been slapped with a six-month suspension for assaulting a football fan during Hearts of Oak’s 1-2 loss to Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League. Video of the assault went viral as the fan suffered a severe bruise from the boxer’s punches. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is producing 3.5 million gallons of water a day out of the usual 4.8 million it produces at its Daboase Treatment Plant in the Western Region. This comes after Parliament completed an investigation into a petition brought before it by the students who sat the exams. The failure rate in the exams has been alarming with the 2019 edition recording one of the worst rates. Members of the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists (GACRA) have been directed to resume delivery of services to all forms of surgeries from Thursday, February 6. This comes after “fruitful” talks between leadership and stakeholders. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, February 5 by National Secretary Frederick Kporxah, the stakeholders showed goodwill. Registered anaesthetists withdrew their services on Friday, January 31, demanding an improvement in their conditions of service and fair treatment by the Medical and Dental Council. A video of Suzethe Margaret entering a mosque wearing shoes before letting her dog run around went viral in July. The state has re-arraigned the former Chief Executive Officer of defunct UT Bank, Dr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, before court after discharging him on the initial charges. He has now been slapped with 42 charges and expected to appear before court on Wednesday, February 12. A man parading himself as a lawyer was on Wednesday, February 5 arrested on the orders of Justice Alexander Graham inside the Techiman Circuit Court in the Bono East Region. Iddrisu Yahaya was representing some four accused persons involved in a case of robbery, kidnapping and murder when he asked to be arrested. Malawi’s president Peter Mutharika says he will contest a court ruling that overturned his election last May. Mr Mutharika, Malawi’s president since 2014, won the election with a 38.5% share of the vote. Opposition party leader Lazarus Chakwera came second with 35.41% On Monday, judges annulled the vote citing irregularities and ordered a new election within 150 days.
