University of Ghana, Legon has suspended lectures with immediate effect in the outbreak of coronavirus, 3news.com has gathered.
Students resident on campus have, however, been asked to stay in their rooms while non-resident students have been asked not to visit campus for now.
These were made known by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, in a live broadcast on Sunday, March 15.
This comes in the wake of the confirmation of a student as having tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
The student, one of six confirmed cases in Ghana, had visited the US but returned on Monday, March 9 and was confirmed positive on Friday, March 13.
“I will like to assure you that the university is safe,” Prof Oduro Owusu said.
Already, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has sent a message to all students notifying them of the decision by authorities to suspend lectures.

Meanwhile, the SRC of the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region has also notified students of the suspension of all academic activities.
Signed by SRC President Zaki Abdul-Hamid, the notice said students are to stay safe and “take all preventive measures into use”.
