The Member of Parliament for the Effia Constituency in the Western Region, Joseph Cudjoe, has jeered at his parliamentary opponent for daring to contest him despite his glaring and towering developmental accomplishments in the constituency. He is convinced his contender is ill-informed since he maintains a simple assessment of his work as the Member of Parliament for Effia for the past eight years would have “jolted her from her slumber that she is embarking on a suicidal mission trying to contest me”. “I’m surprised that I am being contested because the performances are there to see and you can even…
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the recent demolishing carried out in the precincts of the Ghana Trade Fair Centre. In a statement issued by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC said the move seems a “bizarre” and “capricious” application of state power by the Akufo-Addo-led government. In the early hours of Monday, February 17, the Ghana Trade Fair Company carried out its warnings to 21 companies to demolish their buildings despite pleas. One of the companies is Color Planet Limited, run by Raymond Archer, formerly of the Enquirer newspaper. “This is clearly an act of cowardice…
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an interlocutory injunction seeking to stop the construction works being carried out in relation to the National Cathedral at Ridge in Accra. The Supreme Court unanimously held that Article 2 (2) of the 1992 Constitution makes provision for adequate remedy in case the action of the defendant failed or is declared unconstitutional. “In order not to prejudice the substantive matter, we will refrain from touching on the legal issues, the application for injunction is however dismissed,” the SC ruled. Jonathan Holm a businessman had gone to the SC on the basis that government has…

The Council on Tuesday denied receiving any such money from the government or any other state institution to carry out election-related activities. “No such amount had been credited to the…
Low-skilled workers would not get visas under post-Brexit immigration plans unveiled by the government. It is urging employers to “move away” from relying on “cheap labour” from Europe and invest in retaining staff and developing automation technology. The Home Office said EU and non-EU citizens coming to the UK would be treated equally after UK-EU free movement ends on 31 December. Labour said the “hostile environment” will make it hard to attract workers. But Home Secretary Priti Patel said the new system would mean “the brightest and the best will be able to come to the United Kingdom”. The government,…

The Head of the Virology Department of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Professor William Kwabena Ampofo, says seven out of the 21 cases tested for coronavirus showed symptoms as outlined by the Ghana Health Service despite all proving negative. He, therefore, called for vigilance and heightened effort as the disease is closer than probably thought. For him, Ghana is safe for now but measures have to be put in place to fight the disease in case of an outbreak. He admitted that the symptoms of the coronavirus disease are hard to tell and therefore makes the viral disease hard…
Ghana’s foremost aerospace medicine specialist Dr Issaka Yakubu Akparibo has cautioned the government not to make the mistake of using emergency centres mounted to prevent Ebola in 2014 as centres for the new coronavirus disease. Dr Akparibo says the modes of transmission of the two diseases are “totally different” and so the mechanism in preventing them should also be different. He made this suggestion on Tuesday, February 18 while making a presentation at a public forum on coronavirus organized by Media General in collaboration with Vodafone Ghana. The forum sought answers to Ghana’s preparedness in case of a possible outbreak.…
