Harvey Weinstein has been charged with sexual assault in Los Angeles on the same day he appeared in a New York court on a separate case. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said the charges related to the alleged sexual assault of two women in 2013. If convicted, Mr Weinstein could face up to 28 years in prison. The film producer earlier appeared in a New York court, where he faces separate charges of rape and sexual assault. He has said all his relationships were consensual but admitted that he had “caused a lot of pain”. “We believe the…
Thousands of people have marched through the streets of the Liberian capital, Monrovia, to protest against President George Weah’s handling of the economy – which has seen spiralling inflation. The demonstrators want Mr Weah to say what happened to $25m (£19m) that the government withdrew from the country’s Federal Reserve Account in 2018 in an effort to stabilise the economy. They have also called on the former football star to declare his assets before and after he became president two years ago. Mr Weah has accused opposition politicians of organising the demonstration and he called on them to focus instead…
Former Minister of Trades and Industry Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under John Dramani Mahama built more factories than known. He cites how most of the factories secured funding and support from government agencies like the National Board for Small-Scale Industries, Export Development Bank as well as Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). He said the New Patriotic Party’s One-District One Factory Programme pales in comparison to the over 1,000 factories created under former President Mahama. “If you are trying to look at whoever built factories and employed people, we did far more than anything…

Cheers! We all made it to 2020! This is a year we all should make a conscious effort to raise queens out of our daughters— not slaves. In this year, we ought to be intentional about how we are going to make our daughters and sisters perceive the world around them by the thoughts we sow into their minds. If we are going to have a new generation of daughters who are going to act differently, it will largely depend on the mindset they have. Their mindset is going to be formed by what they are daily told. Raising queens,…
The Western Region Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Toku, has charged journalists to use the same yardstick they used to measure the performance of the past Mahama administration in assessing the Akufo-Addo administration. Nana Toku said it is regrettable that some media practitioners, who viciously criticized the past NDC government for certain decisions they deemed bad for the country, have gone quiet and are watching on while the same and, according to him, even worse decisions are being taken by the Akufo-Addo-led government. The regional chairman expressed the concern when he and his regional executives met…
Members of the National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NAFAG) have given the Fisheries Commission 48 hours to withdraw the new licence fees announced for 2020. Among other reasons, NAFAG says members were given too short a notice for implementation of the decision. The Fisheries Commission, in a notice on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, announced a chargeable rate of $200 or its equivalent at the prevailing Bank of Ghana rate as licence fees for all industrial fishing vessels. According to the notice signed by Michael Arthur-Dadzie, the Executive Director of the Commission, the new licence fees were approved by the Ministry…
It’s news that does not surprise many, but it certainly changes the landscape in the national football circles in Ghana. Not one but as many as seven head coaches of the various national sides all lose their jobs in one massive clear-out. The biggest fish in the pond, however, is Kwesi Appiah, whose contract had expired, nevertheless. Not all second comings end well. They usually don’t. Think of Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth. He guided them through the unthinkable in his first stint, but after returning from Southampton for a second assignment, he could not save them from relegation. Jose Mourinho…
Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah is no longer in charge of the senior national men’s soccer team after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved all technical teams of the various national teams. The decision, which takes immediate effect, “affects both male and female national teams,” a statement from the Communications Department of the Association on Thursday said. The decision means all coaches handling all the national teams – together with their backroom staff – will have to renegotiate new deals if an opportunity is given. Head coach of Black Stars B Maxwell Konadu has since joined former side Asante…
