Plans are afoot for the setting up of a cassava processing factory under the One District One Factory initiative in Shama, District Chief Executive Joseph Amoah has disclosed to a gathering at a ceremony to mark the 35th edition of the Farmers’ Day Celebration at Nyankrom in the Shama District of the Western Region. The District Chief Executive of Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region, Agyeman Asiedu, has appealed to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to train cocoa farmers to undertake pruning and hand pollination of their own farms to complement the effort of hired personnel. “Many of the individual farmers are ready to be trained on how to properly prune their own farms. Mobile network operator MTN has been sanctioned by the National Communications Authority (NCA) over the recent challenges with its data bundles to customers. Despite MTN compensating affected customers, NCA handed the telecommunications firm with an initial fine of GH¢10,000 for failure to submit a report on the challenges within 24 hours as stipulated in Section N(7) of NCA’s gazetted schedule of penalties. Ghana’s major teacher unions – GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-G – have declared a nationwide strike, beginning Monday, December 9. Celebrated economist Kwame Pianim has urged Ghanaians to support the Bank of Ghana’s introduction of higher denominations into the economy. According to him, the initiative should have been done earlier. The Bank on Friday, November 29 introduced GH¢100 and GH¢200 banknotes as well as GH¢2 coins. The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, to among others compensate customers affected by the recent network challenges. Customers of the telecommunications giant have recently complained about billing inaccuracies as regards purchased data.
