James Egan, the 63-year-old patient who sustained several bruises and scratches on his hands and other parts of the body while on admission at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in the Central Region, has passed away. The sad incident occurred two weeks ago and his family attributes the demise to the maltreatment he received in the hands of the Hospital’s staff, who were mostly nurses. Christine Lagarde has said she will step down as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It comes ahead of a decision on her nomination to become head of the European Central Bank (ECB). Computer pioneer Fernando Corbato, who first used passwords to protect user accounts, has died aged 93. Dr Corbato introduced the basic security measure while developing methods that let more people use a computer at the same time. He developed a technique, called time-sharing, that divided up the processing power of a computer so it could serve more than one person at once. Dr Corbato reportedly died as a result of complications caused by diabetes. China’s economy grew at its slowest pace since the early 1990s in the second quarter, official figures showed. In the three months to June, the economy grew 6.2% from a year earlier. The result was in line with forecasts. China has moved to stimulate its economy this year by boosting spending and delivering tax cuts.
