The Ashanti Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is up in arms against the police after a planned demonstration against the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) was stopped. The NDC had planned the demonstration against the limited registration exercise scheduled to take off on Friday, June 7. The demonstration was scheduled to be held on Monday, June 3. But reports say the Ashanti Regional Police Command secured a court injunction last Friday to stop the opposition party from the protest march. Ghana’s Energy Ministry has started a discussion with its Ivorian counterpart on the possibility of the two countries building a gas pipeline. The project conceived by Ghana’s Energy Ministry is part of efforts to ensure stable power in the two countries. The Energy Ministry has tabled a proposal to extend the Ghana part of the Natural Gas Transmission Network System (NGTS) from its gas processing facility at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District – along the western border of Ghana – to border town Sringabo in Ivory Coast. The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Emmanuel Kofi Nti, has rung the changes at the top hierarchy of the nation’s tax-collecting body. Three commissioners have been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance “with immediate effect”. A Japanese man has died on a flight from Mexico City after ingesting 246 bags of cocaine. The flight, bound for Japan’s Narita International Airport, had to make an emergency landing in Mexico’s Sonora state after he began to have seizures. Authorities said the man, identified as Udo N, died of a cerebral oedema caused by a drug overdose. The passenger transferred to the flight after starting his journey in the Colombian capital Bogotá.
