The former Managing Director of defunct Capital Bank Ghana Limited, William Ato Essien, has been dragged to an Accra High Court over several offences including stealing and money laundering. Together with three others, Mr Essien, who became the highest shareholder after leaving the Bank, was charged on Tuesday, October 8. Tetteh Nettey, Fitzgerald Odonkor and Kate Quartey-Papafio are the three others joined in the suit filed by the state. A statue of former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been built in his hometown in Sweden. The bronze structure, commissioned by the Swedish FA, was unveiled in front of hundreds of fans outside Malmo’s stadium on Tuesday. “No matter where you come from, where you are, no matter what you look like, the statue is the symbol that anything is possible,” said Ibrahimovic. A second lecturer from the University of Lagos (Unilag) has been suspended, following a BBC Africa Eye investigation into sexual harassment at two top West African universities. Dr Samuel Oladipo was secretly filmed propositioning an undercover reporter posing as a prospective student. He becomes the fourth and final academic exposed in the documentary to be suspended. On Monday, Unilag announced the suspension of Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, who also appeared in the documentary. A member of the Women Caucus in Parliament has threatened to kill any male teacher who makes sexual advances at her daughter in any educational institution in the country. The Member of Parliament for Bosome-Freho Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Joyce Adwoa Akoh Dei, said such acts “should not be tolerated in schools” because they have tendencies of ruining the victims’ lives. “I will kill anybody who messes [up] with my daughter like that,” the MP warned. A foreign firm has launched electric motorbikes to operate as taxis in Rwanda. Safi said its fully charged e-motors can run for 45 minutes and cover a distance of 90km (55 miles). Motorbikes are a common means of transport in Rwandan cities, some 20,000 operate in the capital, Kigali, alone. Niyonkuru Christelle from Safi told journalists on Tuesday that the firm will install charging stations around the country. The White House has officially refused to co-operate with the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
