At least five people have been killed and many more injured in the second mass shooting in the US state of Texas in a month. First to be shot was a policeman who stopped the gunman’s car between the cities of Midland and Odessa. The gunman went on to shoot at numerous motorists and passers-by. At one point, he abandoned his car and stole a postal truck before continuing his spree. He was shot dead by police at a cinema complex. The motive of the gunman, who was white and in his mid-30s, was unclear. Four weeks ago, 22 people…
Some of the nursing trainees of Nalerigu College of Nursing and Midwifery captured in a viral video on their knees begging former President John Dramani Mahama may have breached the students’ code of conduct, according to management. But management in a statement on Saturday said the incident happened outside campus while some of the students seen in the video are not known. The video captures scenes from the former president’s Thank You tour of the North East Region. Aside kneeling to apologise to the NDC flagbearer for not voting for…
Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew was on target for the second consecutive week as his side Crystal Palace pipped Aston Villa 1-0 in the English Premier League on Saturday. Ayew scored in the 73rd minute of the game at Selhurst Park. The Ghanaian found the back of the net at Old Trafford last weekend in the Eagles’ 2-1 win over Manchester United. Ayew scores as Palace beat United at Old Trafford There was controversy in the match, however, as referee Kevin Friend disallowed what many think was a clean equaliser. He had whistled against Jack Grealish for diving in the…
A fluke own goal and strikes by Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino helped Liverpool see off Burnley at Turf Moor as they maintained their 100% start to their Premier League campaign. The Clarets had fought toe-to-toe with last season’s runners-up until the 33rd minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s seemingly intended cross to the far post brushed the back of Chris Wood and sailed over the head of the stranded Nick Pope in goal. Another piece of misfortune occurred soon after the restart. This time Burnley skipper Ben Mee inadvertently found Reds forward Firmino with a short pass; he then found Mane…
National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates in Ellembelle in the Western Region have overwhelmingly endorsed incumbent Member of Parliament Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as their parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections. Nine hundred and ninety-three out of 1,095 of the delegates voted for the former Energy Minister as he seeks to represent Ellembelle for the fourth time in parliament. Ellembelle was one of two constituencies in the Western Region that had the parliamentary primaries put on hold. This was due to an unresolved petition against an aspirant, Mieza Mea Alleah. Mr. Mea Alleah was accused of forging signatures on his nomination form.…
A former commander of the Ghana Battalion in ECOMOG, Colonel (rtd) Festus Aboagye, says clear guidelines should be given in the handling of arms by Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) officers. He opined that the recent directive by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) will rather increase the shooting of innocent citizens. He was speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, August 31. IGP James Oppong-Boanuh gave the directive on Thursday after visiting families of two police officers killed in the line of duty by suspected armed robbers. Police officers who go on traffic duties will now carry guns…
The entire Kojokrom township in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis has been thrown into state of shock and sombreness after a 26-year-old man was crashed to death by a cargo train around 1pm, Saturday. The deceased, whose name has been given as Castro, was said to be part of hundreds of mourners who were on their way to cemetery to bury a friend. Eye witnesses told Connect FM’s OMANBAPA morning show host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that the deceased, who was very drunk, attempted hanging on the train that was heading towards Takoradi. “He suddenly slipped and the train mutilated his body,”…
Jannik Vestergaard’s towering header gave 10-man Southampton a point after another moment of magic from Manchester United new boy Daniel James looked to have put them on course for victory at St Mary’s. James scored his third Premier League goal in four appearances with a fierce, rising right-foot drive after only 10 minutes, and the 21-year-old Wales attacker was the biggest threat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Saints, however, gained momentum in the second half as a disappointing United side grew increasingly sloppy, and Vestergaard capped a spell of pressure with the equaliser just before the hour. Che Adams had…
Since 2014, over 96,000 women in northern Ghana saved USD $7.8 million – or about GH¢42,659,747 – and invested the money to improve the health, education, nutrition, and economic opportunities of their families. Last year, Nanumba North received 98% in the District Performance Assessment conducted by the Ministry of Local Government, the second highest score nationally. As a result, the district received GH¢1.2 million (USD $220,000) to implement district priorities. These accomplishments are a result of the hard work of the District Assemblies and community members, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/ Resiliency in Northern…
Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says the corruption case against the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) seemed to have been blown beyond proportion. To him, he wants to know whether the actions of suspended Adjenim Boateng Adjei affected the public purse or not. “That was what I am looking at and I haven’t found it [yet],” he said on The Key Points on TV3 and 3FM on Saturday, August 31. He said many public servants will fail the test of conflict of interest as per the country’s procurement laws and so the criticism must be toned down.…
