The Paramount Chief of Salaga, Kpembewura Bangbage IV, has rendered an unqualified apology to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Yagbonwura and the entire Gonjaland for the action displayed by some youth in the Salaga South Constituency last Tuesday. Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered another Commons defeat after MPs voted down her approach to Brexit talks. MPs voted by 303 to 258 – a majority of 45 – against a motion endorsing the government’s negotiating strategy. The defeat has no legal force and Downing Street said it would not change the PM’s approach to talks with the EU. A three-member committee has been inaugurated to investigate the October 22 disturbances at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The committee is chaired by former Supreme Court judge, Rose Constance Owusu. Research Assistants of Parliament have written to the leadership of the House to ensure that their eight-month salary arrears are settled. In a petition sent to the clerk and copied the Speaker as well as the Majority and Minority Leaders, the Assistants indicated that as of January 24, 2019, when the petition was signed, “no salaries have been paid to any Research Assistant”. Parliament has absolved Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency Kennedy Ohene Agyapong of any wrongdoing in a contemptuous case brought before its Privileges Committee last year. Though the Committee’s report had found Mr Agyapong guilty of contempt and even recommended his suspension, he was asked to “go and sin more”. The report of the Committee was read by Chairman Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the First Deputy Speaker. The body of footballer Emiliano Sala is to be flown back to his hometown in Argentina where a vigil is planned. Sala, 28, was travelling to Cardiff in a plane piloted by David Ibbotson, which went missing over the English Channel on 21 January. His body was recovered from the plane wreck last week but Mr Ibbotson’s body has still not been found. Sala was flying to join his new side Cardiff City from French club Nantes when the plane went missing. A 56-year-old woman has been eaten by pigs after collapsing in their pen, Russian media report. After venturing out to feed the animals in a village in the central Russian region of Udmurtia, the farmer reportedly fainted or suffered an epileptic seizure. Her husband later found the body. A woman who raised a false alarm in a car that her children were being kidnapped has been arrested by the Sekondi police. The false kidnap alarm almost resulted in the lynching of a 45-year-old man, who later turned out to be the husband of the woman. The incident happened at Effiakuma, a suburb of Sekondi/Takoradi, Wednesday morning after the enraged lady accused the man of kidnapping his own children.
