Uganda has lowered academic requirements for police recruits in order to deal with desertion and “deal with indiscipline”, news site Daily Monitor reports. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the move was informed by a study done by its human resource division. “The study found out that constables with senior six academic [A-Level] certificates were a bit low on productivity and also use the police as a springboard to other careers,” Mr Enanga said. The Minister of Youth and Sports has disclosed that in excess of $4.5 million was spent by Ghana at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. A Gambian soldier has admitted to participating in the 2005 execution of around 50 migrants on the orders of former President Yahya Jammeh, who is reported to have feared the men had come to overthrow him. Police at Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region has arrested three persons with human parts at Abuom near Sankore.
