Embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central Constituency Mahama Ayariga is challenging the qualification or otherwise of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to bring charges against him. According to the lawmaker, the Prosecutor is not a legitimate holder of his office. Mr Ayariga’s lawyer, Dominic Ayine, has therefore filed a motion at the Financial and Economic Crime High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, challenging the qualification of the Special Prosecutor to prefer charges against his client. There has been a general increase in the number of candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). From 509,824 in 2018, 517,332 are sitting the exams across the country. The exams started on Monday, June 10 with English Language and Religious and Moral Education. They are scheduled to end on Friday, June 14. According to statistics made available by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), more girls have registered for the exams. Boris Johnson has pledged to cut income tax bills for people earning more than £50,000 a year if he wins the race to succeed Theresa May as prime minister.
