Embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central Constituency Mahama Ayariga is challenging the qualification or otherwise of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to bring charges against him. According to the lawmaker, the Prosecutor is not a legitimate holder of his office. There has been a general increase in the number of candidates sitting this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). From 509,824 in 2018, 517,332 are sitting the exams across the country. The exams started on Monday, June 10 with English Language and Religious and Moral Education. They are scheduled to end on Friday, June 14. According to statistics made available by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), more girls have registered for the exams. National triple jump record holder Nadia Eke over the weekend earned qualification to next year’s Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan. Boris Johnson has pledged to cut income tax bills for people earning more than £50,000 a year if he wins the race to succeed Theresa May as prime minister. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has received strong backing from some female appointees under his administration over his gender dynamism comments to women. The Normalisation Committee, which oversees football at the highest level in Ghana, has written to the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko over the club’s recent decision to withdraw from the Tier 1 Special Competition. The Porcupine Warriors announced their withdrawal from the competition after the Committee fixed their semi-final clash with arch-rivals Hearts of Oak for the Accra Sports Stadium.
