Every sector of the economy is now suffering from the economic mismanagement of the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to former president John Dramani Mahama. He says the economic mismanagement by the Akufo-Addo administration has brought untold hardship on teachers, drivers, traders, farmers and public sector workers, among others. Addressing delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Agona in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency in the Ashanti Region as part of his four-day flagbearership campaign, Mr Mahama observed that the hardship confronting Ghanaians is contrary to the lofty promises made by the NPP ahead of the…
White House Deputy National Security Adviser Mira Ricardel has left her post, following a high-profile row with US First Lady Melania Trump. A White House spokeswoman said Mrs Ricardel “departs the White House to transition to a new role within the administration”. She did not elaborate. Mrs Trump this week said that Mrs Ricardel “no longer deserves the honour of serving in this White House”. The two reportedly feuded during a tour of Africa in October. The removal of Mrs Ricardel comes amid reports in US media that President Donald Trump is considering a shake-up in the White House West…
Michael Avenatti, lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels in her suit against President Donald Trump, has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, police in Los Angeles say. Celebrity news website TMZ said this followed a physical confrontation between the lawyer and a woman. He denied the claim, and was later released on $50,000 (£38,500) bail. The lawyer represents Ms Daniels, who alleges she and President Trump had a brief relationship – a claim he denies. Ms Daniels has sought to free herself from a non-disclosure agreement she signed before the 2016 election. In a statement issued by his office,…

The statement will be for a year in which Ghana will not be under an external credit facility (ECF) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Government has already indicated the post-IMF budget will “bring more relief, hope and improvement in the standard of living of our people”. Addressing journalists last week, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the budget will see an expansion of credit to the benefit of small and medium-scale…
Winner of the maiden edition of the Presidential Pitch competition Vanessa Aisha Limann has urged start-ups and young entrepreneurs to take advantage of programmes and platforms that offer information on access to funding opportunities. He 19-year-old says most start-ups lack information on funding sources, thereby making it difficult for them to raise the right funding for their businesses. Startups in Ghana mostly complain of lack of access to cheaper credit unlike in other countries where there are systems to support young entrepreneurs. There are cheaper loans, angel investors, government support amongst others. In contrast, the interest rate of most financial institutions…

Small as the campus of the Ghana Institute of Journalism [GIJ] is, the bearers of the rumor succeeded spreading it across all corners the way a smothering fire does on a refuse dump. Trust me, it was a big news! When journalists – people trained to be professional gossipers – get hold of your secret information, you are better a dead person. “She is pregnant!” was the infectious chorus. It was on every lip. The girl who received the torrential blows, the way falling mangoes hit the ground in a windstorm, was Auguster Asantewa Boateng. A very beautiful girl and…
A member of the communication and legal teams of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, is of the opinion that nothing seems to be working in Ghana under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. “The situation is hopeless,” he stressed. The politician-cum-lawyer was speaking on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday in the wake of the commendation of the current government by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Sheikh Hamad Al Thani praised President Akufo-Addo for his leadership skills over Ghana for the past 22 months. This was during the one-day official trip made to the Gulf…
Fulham have sacked manager Slavisa Jokanovic and replaced him with Claudio Ranieri, who guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016. Jokanovic makes way with the Cottagers sitting bottom of the Premier League table with five points from 12 matches. Italian Ranieri, 67, has been given a “multi-year” contract by the Londoners. “Making a change without having the right answer or succession plan was not an option,” said Fulham chairman Shahid Khan. “So having someone of Claudio’s calibre ready to accept our challenge was comforting but, most of all, essential. “Claudio is risk-free and ready-made for the Premier League,…
The Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) has signed a partnership collaboration with Book Aid International, one of the world’s largest book donors, to begin a book shipment to support Ghana’s public school and special libraries. The signing of the partnership is as a result of series of meetings between the Authority led by its Acting Chief Executive Officer, Hayford Siaw, and Chief Executive Officer of Book Aid International Alison Tweed. In April 2018, Mr Siaw reached out to Book Aid International in a bid to negotiate a restoration of a broken partnership of more than two decades with Ghana. This was…
