The Ghana Police Service has given the strongest warning yet that any unauthorized security arrangement made for Saturday’s presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be tolerated. The Service has, therefore, urged party executives, delegates, sympathisers and the public, in general, to cooperate with its officers for successful polls. The NDC will on Saturday elect its candidate for the 2020 presidential elections from seven aspirants. Voting centres will be mounted in the 275 constituencies across the country for the exercise. Former President John Dramani Mahama has asked delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and, by extension, the entire membership to ignore lawsuits challenging his eligibility to stand for president. There have been two lawsuits challenging the former president as a result of having served in the high capacity before. Stephen Agyemang had dragged Mr Mahama to court, arguing that his re-election bid violates the 1992 Constitution. A few days later, a former General Secretary of Trobu Constituency’s NDC, Edmund Palmer, also filed a writ to have Mr Mahama stopped “from pursuing his bid to be re-elected as a flagbearer/…
DAGBON A month ago, almost to the day, I was in Yendi, fittingly attired as a self-proclaimed Prince of Dagbon, Prince Abudani, the first of that lineage, to witness the installation of Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II as the overlord of Dagbon. Thousands of our compatriots were there to share in the joy of the occasion. It was a ceremony that many had despaired we would ever see, but a new Yaa-Na, accepted by the two gates of Abudu and Andani, was installed on that day. The installation of a new Yaa-Na brought to an end decade of feuding that laid…
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked leadership of Ghana’s two major political parties to voluntarily disband their vigilante groups. He made a passionate appeal to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to meet, preferably next week, to find ways of disposing of the groups. The groups – among which are Invisible Forces, Delta Forces and Bolga Bull Dogs of the NPP and The Hawks and Azorka Boys of the NDC – have become a thorn in the flesh of citizens especially in the peak of political activism. Some have visited violence on citizens immediately…
The seat of government will from August be powered by solar energy, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced. This will be an example to other public institutions, he stated. President Akufo-Addo made this known on Thursday while delivering his state of the nation address. It is his third since assuming office in 2017. According to him, the use of renewable energy has become the order of the day around the world and his government is putting in place measures to have it spread across the country. Already, some key ministries have undergone a conversion to energy from the sun.…

According to him, debts have been paid and the Scheme “has been brought back to life”. Addressing Parliamentarians in his state-of-the-nation speech on Thursday, the president said even renewal of membership has seen a tremendous increase. “On 19th December, 2018, the introduction of mobile renewal of membership was launched. “Since then, there has been an average of 70,000 members renewing their membership every week.” He, therefore, commended Dr Samuel Annor for his brief but impactful administration. Dr Annor has since…
Russia’s parliament has voted to ban soldiers from using smartphones while on duty, after their social media use raised issues of national security. The bill forbids military personnel from using a phone with the ability to take pictures, record videos and access the internet. Soldiers also cannot write about the military or talk to journalists. More than 400 of 450 lawmakers in Russia’s lower house of parliament, the Duma, backed the law on Tuesday. Phones with basic calling and messaging facilities could still be used, but tablets and laptops would also subject to the new ban. Soldiers’ social media data…

NDC is choosing a flagbearer out of six persons to lead them into the 2020 general elections. The elections will be held at centres to be spread across the country. Last…
Former President John Dramani Mahama has returned to the Brong Ahafo Region to wrap up his campaign for Saturday’s presidential primary of his party. The two-time leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in Drobo in the Jaman South Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region to finish his nationwide campaign. Mr Mahama had skipped some areas in Jaman South in his five-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region in October last year. There were troubles in two towns in the constituency. Mr Mahama wants to drum home his message of saving Ghanaians from the “hardship” under the current Akufo-Addo-led…
