The General Council of the Church of Pentecost has elected Apostle Eric Nyamekye to replace Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah as Chairman of the premier Pentecostal church in Ghana. The elections, which took place during the General Council Meeting on Thursday, saw the head of Koforidua Area of COP garner 994 out of 1009 members – representing 98.5 per cent – in his favour with 14 opposing his nomination. At least 76 people have died and scores more were injured in fierce dust storms that hit the northern Indian states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The storms on Wednesday disrupted electricity, uprooted trees, destroyed houses and killed livestock. Many of the dead were sleeping when their houses collapsed after being struck by intense bursts of lightning.
