Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said a Spanish tax fraud case relating to his time in charge of Real Madrid is closed. He emerged after a brief hearing at a court in the Spanish capital Madrid to say he had paid a fee to settle accusations. He had been accused of owing nearly €3.3m (£2.9m, $3.8m) in undeclared image rights revenue. The hearing came two days before a Manchester United game against Chelsea. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admitted that the government’s flagship educational programme, the Free Senior High School Policy, had some challenges at implementation. He listed logistics, infrastructure, laboratories, classrooms and dormitories as some of the facilities that constituted the difficulties in the takeoff of the programme. “But everything new when it starts has problem,” he noted. “But if you don’t start, you can’t progress.” He, therefore, asked for the support of all Ghanaians to make the programme successful. Spain’s state prosecutor has requested a European arrest warrant for ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and four others over their role in a disputed independence referendum. All five failed to show up at Spain’s high court on accusations of rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds. Mr Puigdemont’s lawyer said the climate was “not good” for him to appear. Nine other sacked members of Catalonia’s regional government did turn up for questioning at the court. Government is readying to implement recommendations of experts put together to see to how the Komenda Sugar Factory could be revived. The Factory was commissioned by former President John Dramani Mahama in May, 2016 though it is one of the factories established by first president Kwame Nkrumah. It was later shut down for a mandatory maintenance operation a few months after the commissioning by Mr Mahama. Though it produced its first 100 bags barely a month after the commissioning, the factory has not been fully operational since its shutdown.
