Some fisher folks in Western Region have vowed not to give up light fishing and the use of dynamite and other illegal fishing practices. They insist fishing is their livelihood and whoever wants sanity in the industry must first stop foreigners, who they claim invaded their “terrain” with the illegal fishing practices. The fishermen were interacting with a group of journalist on a USAID-UCC-aided training in effective reportage in fisheries and environmental issues. The fishing industry in Ghana is based on resources from the marine, freshwater and coastal lagoons. It is estimated that over 250,000 artisanal fishers depend on these…

Ghana’s Black Starlets lost the 2017 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations trophy to Mali on Sunday, May 28 after going 1-0 down to the Eaglets in the final of the tournament. The goal was the first to be conceded by the Starlets in open play at this year’s tournament, which was held in Gabon. A 21st minute penalty converted by Mamadou Samake after John Otu felled his Malian opponent in the box, the goal was the only one that separated the two West African sides. The Malians dominated the midfield with Abdoul Salam Ad Jiddou leading the charge. Ghana goalie…
Arsene Wenger secured his record seventh FA Cup final win as Arsenal produced a magnificent display to win a Wembley thriller against 10-man Chelsea. Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal the lead in contentious fashion after only four minutes, when referee Anthony Taylor overruled his assistant after he had flagged for offside against Aaron Ramsey. The Premier League champions also claimed Sanchez handled in the build-up. And their task became even harder when Victor Moses was correctly sent off by Taylor in the second half after receiving a second yellow card for diving. Diego Costa revived Chelsea’s hopes of a repeat of…

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has stressed that the government’s approach in the recent fight against illegal mining is not sustainable. “I think the approach is a wrong approach,” Dr Ahmed Jinapor said on Saturday, May 27. He was contributing to discussion on the issue on TV3’s extended version of New Day. According to UEW’s Head of Early Childhood Education Department, the fight should be “coordinated” with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources not the one to visit illegal mines to enforce rules and regulations. “Unfortunately, by what is going on it is not…
British Airways has cancelled all flights from Heathrow and Gatwick until 18:00 BST because of computer problems. A “major IT system failure is causing very severe disruption to our flight operations worldwide”, the airline said. It apologised for the “global system outage” and said it was “working to resolve the problem”. Heathrow Airport said it was “working closely” with BA to solve the issue. There is no evidence at this stage to suggest the system failure was caused by a cyber attack, BA told BBC business correspondent Joe Lynam.
