The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners may not carry out their ‘All Die Be Die’ demonstration as threatened. This is because the Association is consulting its executives to review the decision, following a meeting with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in Kumasi on Friday, May 19. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Eastern Region has confiscated three tonnes of unwholesome products from shops and selling points across the Region. The exercise is to sanitize the market and ensure consumers have safe products at disposal. The Eastern Region Director of the Authority, Samuel Kwakye, hinted that his outfit would implement stiffer punishment enshrined in the Public Health Act. The three tonnes of the “unwholesome products” were collected within a period of eight months, precisely, since November 2016 when two tonnes were also confiscated. Sweden has decided to drop the rape investigation into Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Top prosecutor Marianne Ny said his arrest warrant was being revoked as it was impossible to serve him notice. Mr Assange, 45, has lived in the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012. He fears extradition to Sweden would lead to extradition to the US where he is wanted over leaks. Police in London said they would still be obliged to arrest him if he left. The footbridge at Adum in the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region is scheduled to be closed to hawkers and pedestrians on Monday, May 22. The footbridge is due for repair works based on the advice of engineers of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The bridge has developed deep cracks which require urgent attention, the engineers have observed. During the repair works, pedestrians will be permitted to use the bridge “to commute from one end to another whilst the engineers are on site”.
