The Ministry of Interior says none of its agencies is recruiting personnel as widely reported. According to the Ministry, any recruitment exercise will be duly advertised in the dailies before commencement. Major student unions in the country have resolved to get the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John-Peter Amewu, to backtrack on his decision to close down the School of Surveying and Mapping. Mr Amewu ordered the closure of the school following a demonstration by students against suspected sale of the school’s lands by the Land Commission. Mr Amewu asked the Commission to re-assign staff of the School while ordering students to vacate the campus and hostels.
