Two men said to be illegal chain saw operators arrested in a forest in Ghana were taken through corporal punishment of some sort. In the video above, the two were made to slap each other. Twi voices heard in the background commanded the two to slap each other harder. Some have condemned the nature of punishment, which is suspected to have been meted out by forest guards. Twenty-nine suspected illegal miners of various nationalities have been arrested in the Atiwa Rain Forest Reserve. They were rounded up Thursday evening by a team of Forestry Commission officers and the Rapid Task Force made up of security personnel in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region. The suspected illegal miners have been handed over to the Eastern Regional Police Command for further action. Gambian President Adama Barrow has finally returned home a week after being sworn in as Yahya Jammeh’s successor. The transition of power from Mr Jammeh, who ruled The Gambia for 22 years, to Mr Barrow, an estate agent, had proven problematic as the former rejected election results. The Ghana Health Service has dismissed reports of stolen vehicles in its Upper East Regional Directorate. According to the reports, Dr Koku Awoonor-Williams, who headed the Directorate in the recent past, is in the center of five missing vehicles. The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is said to have initiated investigations into the issue when its attention was drawn to it.
