The Trump administration is standing firm over its ban on immigration from seven countries despite court rulings and mass protests against it. In a statement, President Trump said visas would once again be issued once “the most secure policies” were in place, and denied it was a Muslim ban. The move has been widely condemned. Members of the committee to organize the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Ghana’s independence have resolved not to receive any allowances for work to be done. “The service to be rendered by the committee members will be strictly on a pro bono basis.” The decision was reached at the committee’s maiden meeting on Saturday. Three members of the Minority on the Appointments Committee of Parliament have petitioned Speaker Mike Oquaye over the bribery scandal that has hit the committee. After the vetting of Minister of Energy Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko last week, some members of the Committee – notably Bawku Central’s Mahama Ayariga – accused the Policy Advisor of New Patriotic Party’s 2016 campaign of attempting to bribe members with GH¢3,000 each. Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey had to be sworn in on Saturday at the country’s embassy in Ethiopia to assume her new role. This was due to failure to carry out the exercise in Accra. Ms Botchwey is part of newly appointed ministers of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who successfully went through vetting by the legislative. The Teranga Lions could not score against Cameroon in full regulation time as well as after extra time, throwing the second quarter-final match of Gabon 2017 into penalty shootouts. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left Accra for Ethiopia’s capital city of Addis Ababa, where he will be attending the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU). A major shake-up has hit the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, resulting in the reassignment of the Director General.
