The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has dismissed claims circulating on mainstream and social media that vehicle owners are required to rush to its offices to digitally register vehicles registered before 2023, describing such reports as misleading. In a statement dated January 8, 2026, the Authority said it has issued no directive compelling vehicle owners to queue at DVLA premises or meet any strict deadline to complete the ongoing on-boarding exercise. According to the DVLA, the confusion stems from its broader effort to digitise vehicle registration records nationwide. Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Ghana Scholarships Authority, signalling a major reform of the country’s scholarship administration system. The inauguration follows the passage of Act 1149, approved by President John Dramani Mahama, which formally mandates the Authority to oversee the award of government scholarships. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Iddrisu stressed that scholarship decisions must no longer be influenced by individual discretion, nepotism or partisan considerations. He said the new legal framework places the responsibility for awards squarely on the Authority to ensure fairness, equity and alignment with the national interest. According…

Speaking on Point of View with Bernard Avle, Vormawor argued that decisions on the length of the presidential term should be decided by the public through a referendum rather than solely by Parliament. Vormawor explained that while the CRC’s framework classifies issues as “entrenched” or “semi‑entrenched,” allowing Parliament to amend some matters, questions about whether a term should last four or five years directly affect citizens’ rights. “You can’t say put two‑term under referendum and then not debate…
Constitutional law expert Henry Kwasi Prempeh has clarified the often-blurred distinction between a committee and a commission in Ghana’s governance framework, saying the difference has implications for procedure, accountability and outcomes. Speaking on Point of View with Bernard Avle, Prempeh, chairman of the current Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), said the terms are frequently used interchangeably but are not the same in law. He explained that unlike the first Constitutional Review Commission, which was established through a constitutional instrument (C.I.), the current CRC was set up without a specific legal instrument. “The earlier commission was created pursuant to a C.I., which…
