Newmont Goldcorp is set to construct some roads within the Ahafo South communities as part of broader efforts to boost local economic development and ensure a more efficient movement of goods and services within these communities. The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications says its members will now comply with government’s directive asking them to stop upfront deduction of the Communication Service Tax (CST). The telcos however refused to absorb the 9 percent CST as was done in the past when the rate was at 6 percent. After “fruitful discussions” with government on Wednesday, the Chamber said an agreement was reached to “stop upfront deduction of CST but rather apply the tax through a tariff adjustment”. The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) over the weekend graduated its first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate and conferred Masters Degree on nine others at the institution’s first special congregation ceremony in Sunyani. The Minority NDC in Parliament has accused the Akufo-Addo-led government of “secretly” recruiting party activists into the security agencies. It is therefore demanding “immediate cancellation” of the exercise for 2019. United States Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Stephen Lee Censky has said the US government is committed to lending support to ensure the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) is a success. Sixty-one Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the Kpandai District Assembly of the Northern Region have been assisted to be self-sufficient The beneficiaries, who were selected by the District Assembly in consultation with the Assembly members, were presented with ruminants, fridges, provisions and cash, totalling 76, 121 cedis.
