Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, says plans are far advanced to establish a satellite campus of University for Development Studies (UDS) in Yendi. He made this known in his response to an appeal from the Overload of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, at his palace when he paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa palace. Rapper Sarkodie has been made an ambassador for government’s ‘Year of Return’ initiative, which seeks to encourage Africans living in the Diaspora to return home to their roots. The announcement of the rapper’s ambassadorial role was made at a Creative Industry Forum put together by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture at the National Theatre in Accra. The Forum, which is under the theme ‘Reviving Ghana’s creative industry’ brought together stakeholders and players within the creative arts industry in Ghana to deliberate and share ideas on how to further boost the industry. Veteran filmmaker, Ivan Quahigah, has blamed the seeming fall of the Kumasi movie industry, popularly known as ‘Kumawood’, on the continuous flow of foreign soaps into the country. A staunch critic of homosexuality, Professor Mike Oquaye, has hit hard at persons engaged in the abhorrent practice, describing them as deviants in society who should not be accorded any rights as homosexuals. Two persons, including the Takoradi constituency treasurer of the New Patriotic Party, Mark Ofori, have been shot dead by some unknown assailants at Fijai in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region. A relative of the treasurer whose name has not been given, also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident that happened at about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. Three journalists from the Media General group – Portia Gabor, Esi Benewaa Otoo, Adwoa Adobea-Owusu – have been awarded by the Merck Foundation for their excellent reportage on issues of infertility amongst men and women in Ghana.
