Twenty-seven schools have automatically qualified for the 2020 National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ). The schools were the quarter-finalists in the 2019 edition, which saw St Augustine’s College beat PRESEC-Legon and St Peter’s SHS to the title. The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) wants to know from government the status of recommendations made by the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) established in January 2010. The Coalition, Election Community of Practice and Learning (ECOPL) is also demanding the roadmap for the implementation of these recommendations. Players in the mining sector are mounting pressure on government for accountability in the transfer of funds for the Minerals Development Fund. According to the Centre for Extractives and Development Africa, government disbursed only 12.5% out of the 20% required in 2017. The Minerals Development Fund Act of 2016 (Act 912) was set up to provide development projects for mining communities that have been negatively impacted by mining activities. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will be able to do a good job in terms of power distribution if it is given the same support the government of Ghana gave to the Power Distributive Service (PDS), Dr Kwabena Donkor, the Former Minister of Power, has said. The Ghana Education Service (GES) is currently undergoing the process of posting teachers who passed the 2018 Licensure Examination. According to the GES, postings will be completed and made public by end of November, 2019. GES noted in a statement that only persons who completed Colleges of Education and passed all necessary examinations in 2018 will be posted. Former Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has kicked against any plans by the government to resort to restrictive tendering with regards to the PDS concession deal.
