A think-tank group, Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK), has petitioned President Akufo-Addo to ask Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta to step aside pending investigations into the 2.25 billion dollar bond by CHRAJ. Officials from eight companies across industries in Ghana have arrived in the United States where they are expected to explore that country’s market to find areas of interest and make the necessary investment connections. The officials of the industries are in Washington D.C to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit, which connects global companies and U.S. economic development organizations (EDOs). Ghana’s Parliament has unanimously approved Supreme Court judge, Justice Sophia Akuffo, as the country’s next Chief Justice. The 67-year-old who is the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court after Justice William, Atuguba, takes over from Justice Georgina Theodora Wood who retired as the Chief Justice on June 8, 2017. Ms Akuffo is consequently expected to be sworn into office by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who nominated her in consultation with Council of State and in accordance with the constitution. The family of a US based Ghanaian medical student and ex fiancé of actress Gloria Sarfo who died at the 37 military Hospital is accusing the hospital of negligence. Justice Nana Wusu Dankwa was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning by the Golden Tulip shuttle driver after he complained of chest pains. He is reported to have requested oxygen from the nurses at the medical emergency unit immediately he arrived at the hospital. Police prosecutors in Cape Coast have discontinued the case against the first batch of persons who were arrested for their alleged complicity in the murder of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama. The move is to allow the Police to transfer the seven accused persons, including the assembly man said to have masterminded the killing of the military officer at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region on May 29, 2017, to Accra for prosecution. Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has faulted the Appointments Committee of Parliament for its inability to ask the Chief Justice designate, Justice Sophia Akuffo, thorough questions when she was vetted last Friday. He argued the Committee members could have done basic research on the processes of the law courts before the vetting of the nominee.
