At least 14 persons are feared dead when a mining pit collapsed on them on Sunday in the Western Region. The Nsuta District Police Command confirmed that the trapped were among 19 miners when the incident happened following a downpour. Five persons however managed to escape the fatal disaster in a mine located at Prestea-Nsuta. Two of the survivors are currently being interrogated by the police whilst rescue work is underway for possible survivors. A team of navy personnel have moved in to rescue the market women whose boats were capsized on the Bui Reservoir last Friday June 30. Official report from the Bui Power Authority (BPA), managers of the Bui Dam in the Banda District of Brong-Ahafo Region, however could not confirm the number of casualties. Phoenix Resource Centre Global Aid Ghana (PRCGA), a Ghanaian-based non-governmental charitable organization has presented a medical equipment worth $1,500 to the Battor Catholic Hospital. The Enhanced Visual Assessment (EVA) system, a mobile colposcope for cervical screening, was presented to the cervical cancer prevention and training centre of the facility. A major disaster is looming on the main Obuasi–Anhwia-Nkwanta road as the only bridge on the stretch is falling apart. The bridge constructed over 60 years ago is the only major bridge on that stretch and officials from NADMO are planning to close it down to avert any disaster, which could be fatal.
