The High Court in Accra has granted an interim injunction stopping the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) from going ahead with its mass transfer and decision to reduce the ranks of some staff. About 199 metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) recently approved by their respective assemblies have up till Monday, July 24 to declare their assets. Their names are expected to be submitted to the Attorney General on Monday, July 10 after which they will have a fortnight to file their assets declaration forms. “That exercise will be monitored,” President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo warned MMDCEs on Wednesday, when he addressed an orientation programme organised for them. The Minority in Parliament has petitioned the Commission de Surveillance de Secteur Financier (CSSF) of Luxembourg to look into the purchase of a $2.25 billion bond reportedly by a firm from the European country. Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, who made bribery allegations against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, Senyo Hosi, has been sued for eight million cedis in defamation damages. Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has joined Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor from United Arab Emirates’ side Al Ahli, where he has been on loan since August, 2016. Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Claver Gatete has said that though African trade has witnessed remarkable growth over the last two decades, its share of global trade remains at a paltry 15 per cent. Suspected gunmen from the militant Islamist group al-Shabab have attacked a police post in Kenya’s coastal town of Lamu near the Somalia border, police confirmed to the BBC. Combined Kenyan security forces responded swiftly following a tip-off of a potential attack in the area. A fierce exchange of gunfire lasted several hours and a communication mast was destroyed, making it hard to get accurate information. Al-Shabab militants has not commented.
