Armyworms have invaded several cocoa farms in the Ejisu-Juaben municipality in the Ashanti region. The affected farmers say the application of pesticides to control the disease have not worked as it continues to spread to other farms. The farms are in Mamponteng, Kona, Atia, Boamang, Amampama and other cocoa growing communities and it is likely to affect the 1 million metric tonnes target of cocoa production in the country if immediate measures are not put in place to address it. Management of Groupe Nduom, a multinational family holding business that owns Regency Grove Hotel, said the fire that engulfed several properties on same compound with the hotel  was suspected to have been ignited by an air conditioner. A fifteen year old girl was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen following recent attacks on residents of Nkonya Ahenkro by suspects from Alavanyo.
